BOSTON – The Syracuse University women's rowing team recorded three third-place finishes and one fourth-place showing against No. 19 Pennsylvania and rv Northeastern today on the historic Charles River. The Orange varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity eight all finished third and SU's varsity four took fourth. The three teams had good water with a slight cross headwind diminishing from 5 miles-per-hour for the first race to 2 mpg for the last race.
"Our racing this weekend highlighted the quality of the league we are competing in and where we stand within it," said head coach Justin Moore. "This year, we have had to work a great deal on responding to adversity and demonstrating the quality of character we admire when we have not achieved what we set out to do. If we are to be successful, we must persevere and continue to believe in ourselves."
The 19th-ranked Pennsylvania Quakers won the Orange Challenge Cup by taking home the varsity eight in 6:54.7. Syracuse finished in 7:07.3. Penn also won second varsity eight, crossing the line in 7:07.8. The Orange tallied a time of 7:20.8.
Northeastern took home the third varsity eight with a time of 7:30.6. SU finished in 7:53.9. The Huskies also won the varsity four, finishing in 8:03.4. Syracuse crossed the line in 8:26.2.
The Orange returns to the water on Saturday, April 16 in Cambridge, Mass. when it does battle with Harvard, Dartmouth and Louisville.
