The seventh-ranked Syracuse University men's rowing team hosts No. 12 Dartmouth College on Sunday, May 22 in its final cup race of the season. The Orange varsity eight will go toe-to-toe with the Big Green for the Packard Cup. The SU varsity eight as won 16 of its last 20 cup races, dating back to 2006. Syracuse is now 31-6 in dual races over that same span of time. The Orange has won four of the last five Packard Cups, but Dartmouth took home last season's race, crossing the finish line 3.2 seconds before the SU.
Syracuse invites alumni, supporters, friends and fans to the James A. Ten Eyck Memorial Boathouse in Longbranch Park on Sunday to celebrate the dedication of SU's newest vessel, the “Joseph E. Peter IV.”
Mr. Joseph Peter has been a long time donor to the men's crew program. One of Mr. Peter's goals is to always have a racing shell in the boathouse with the name Peter on it. This new boat will be replacing the “Joseph E. Peter III,” which was totaled in last year's trailer accident. Mr. Peter and his family have also established both a scholarship endowment and a boat fund with the University.
The ceremony will take place around 9:40 a.m. after racing has finished.
