COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Lauren Brooks scored two goals to lead No. 3 Syracuse field hockey (14-1, 5-0 BIG EAST) to a 7-2 victory against Georgetown (2-15, 0-5 BIG EAST) on Friday afternoon at the University of Maryland Field Hockey Complex.
Freshman Sarah Clark scored the first goal of her collegiate career, while junior defender Laura Hahnefeldt tallied her first of the season and second of her career.
The Orange established control of the game early as freshman Emma Russell put visiting team on the road just 1:15 in, knocking home a rebound for her seventh of the season.
Sophomore Jordan Page made it a 2-0 game in the 11th minute when she took a pass from Leonie Geyer and scored off a penalty corner. It was the midfielder's sixth goal of the season while Geyer picked up her 28 career assist, moving the junior into a tie for fifth all-time at Syracuse with Julie Williamson (1991-94).
Geyer got in on the scoring act herself just over a minute later in the 12th minute, scoring off a penalty stroke her eighth of the season, making it 3-0.
After Annie Wilson got Georgetown on the board in the 22nd minute, Brooks scored two in a row to close out the half and give Syracuse a 5-1 lead. The sophomore scored off a Kelsey Millman assist in the 27th minute and found the back of the net off a rebound in the 30th minute. Her two goals give her 10 on the season, tying her with line-mate Millman for the team lead.
Clark, a freshman from Newton, N.J., scored her first goal in the 52nd minute to make it 6-1, and after Caitlin Hickey scored for the Hoyas, Hahnefeldt netted her first of the season off a penalty corner with Page and Gillian Pinder assisting to close the scoring, 7-2.
Leann Stiver made two saves in the first half, while Jess Jecko made two stops in the second half for the Orange.
Syracuse held a 34-7 advantage in shots and a 15-5 edge in penalty corners.
The third-ranked Orange returns to Syracuse to host No. 16 Boston College on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it will look to extend its winning streak at J.S. Coyne Stadium to 35 games in its penultimate home game of the regular season.
