Men's Preview
- The men's team earned an at-large bid after finishing third at the NCAA Northeast Regional and claiming its third BIG EAST title in four years.
- SU is one of four BIG EAST men's teams that will compete at the championship. The Orange joins Georgetown, Villanova and Notre Dame as representatives of the BIG EAST.
- Griff Graves, Martin Hehir, Joe Whelan, Ryan Urie, Andrew Palmer and Robert Molke were honored as All-Region Honorees.
Pagano Represents the Women
- Senior harrier Sarah Pagano was an individual qualifier in the Northeast Region. Â
- Pagano has been the top-finisher for SU in every meet she has competed in so far this year.
- Pagano was honored as an All-Region Honoree and named All-BIG EAST for the third-straight year.
- She ran to a ninth place finish in the BIG EAST Championships (21:10) and a 13th place finish (20:19) in the NCAA Northeast Regional.
NCAA History
- Syracuse was crowned national champions in 1951 under head coach Robert Grieve
- This is the fourth-straight year and the 18th time overall that the Syracuse men will run in the NCAA Championship (2009-12).
- Prior to 2009, the last time that SU men qualified for the race was in 1974. Â Â
- The SU women have qualified for the race from 2008-11.
BIG EAST Champions
- On Oct. 26th, the Syracuse men's cross country team won its third BIG EAST Championship title.
- It was the third time in four years that the men won the conference title.
- Freshman Martin Hehir was the individual BIG EAST Champion, running to a first place finish with a time of 24:37.20.
- The men had a program-high six harriers named All-BIG EAST. Hehir was joined by Joseph Whelan, Ryan Urie, Reed Kamyszek, Griff Graves and Robert Molke as SU's All-BIG EAST selections
- The women took a sixth place finish in the race
- Senior Sarah Pagano led the SU women with a ninth place finish with a time of 21:10.
- Pagano was named All-BIG EAST for the third straight-year. It was the second time that a woman was named All-BIG EAST three years in a row. Nana-Sang Bender was named All-BIG EAST in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
- Chris Fox, Brien Bell, Adam Smith and John Oliver were honored as the BIG EAST men's cross country coaching staff of the year. It was the third time in his Orange career that Fox and his coaching staff have garnered the accolade.
SU in the Polls
- The Syracuse men's cross country team was ranked No. 14 in the final regular-season USTFCCCA National Poll. Â
- The men have won four races so far: Harry Lang Invitational, the Dartmouth Invitational, the Toledo Bubble Buster and captured the BIG EAST title. They came in 11th at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational and third in the Northeast Regionals. Â
- The women took first at the Harry Lang Invitational and third at the Dartmouth Invitational. They ran to a fifth place finish in a tough Toledo Bubble Buster race. The women ran to a 22nd place finish at the Wisconsin Meet of Champions and came in sixth at the BIG EAST Championships and the NCAA Regionals.
