
Four Orange Earn CHA Postseason Honors

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. – Sophomore Margot Scharfe, the team's assists leader this season, led four Orange student-athletes who earned College Hockey America postseason honors at the annual conference banquet on Thursday night. Scharfe was named to the CHA Second Team while also earning the Individual Sportsmanship Award and Co-Best Defensive Forward honor.
Joining Scharfe on the Second Team is defenseman Caitlin Roach, while freshmen Nicole Ferrara and Kaillie Goodnough were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Scharfe (Toronto, Ontario) is tied for the team-lead this season with 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists). She is tied for 81st in the nation in points per game (0.76), tied for 55th in goals per game (0.41) while her 13 goals are seventh in the CHA and her 13 assists are 11th. Scharfe also has seven points in her last five games (three goals, four assists), and was named the league Player of the Week on Monday after a three-point weekend at Niagara on Feb. 24-25.
Scharfe shared the Best Defensive Forward award with Mercyhurst's Jess Jones, and earned the Individual Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the player who most exemplifies superior conduct and sportsmanship.
Roach has two goals and 11 assists this season for the Orange in addition to playing on both SU's power play and penalty killing units. She is tied for 50th in the nation in points per game among defensemen (0.41), and is third in the CHA in assists for blueliners. The Dearborn Heights, Mich. native had a five-game point streak earlier this season, the highest of any SU skater this season.
Ferrara (Winthrop, Mass.) is third on the team with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists). Her three game-winning goals are a team-high, including two in overtime. She is a two-time selection as the CHA Rookie of the Week after scoring the game-winner at Niagara on Feb. 25.
Goodnough, who leads all Syracuse defensemen with 14 points this season on five goals and nine assists. She picked up a pair of helpers last weekend at Niagara to earn a spot on the CHA Honor Roll for the fourth time this season. The Mannsville, N.Y. native has an active streak of three straight games with at least one point.
Syracuse, the No. 4 seed in this weekend's CHA Tournament, will battle regular season champion and nationally ranked Mercyhurst on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the RMU Island Sports Center.
