SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 2 Syracuse will make its first appearance in the Carrier Dome in more than a month when it hosts BIG EAST foe Rutgers on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. The Orange enters the game on a six-game winning streak, which has improved its record to 7-2 overall, 2-0 in BIG EAST play. The Scarlet Knights (7-4, 2-1) have won six of their last eight.
The contest is the first of a doubleheader with the Syracuse men's lacrosse squad. Admission and parking are free of charge until the end of halftime of the women's game.
Time Warner Cable Sports will televise the game live. Fans can also follow the action on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area and on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
ORANGE IN THE BIG EAST
Syracuse has won its last six BIG EAST regular-season games, dating back to last season. The Orange won its last four league contests of the 2011 campaign and is 2-0 in league play this season.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Freshman Kailah Kempney tied her season high with five goals to lead Syracuse to a 16-10 victory at No. 9 Notre Dame on Thursday, April 5. The win extended the Orange's winning streak to six games.
With the score tied 2-2, Kempney scored her first goal of the game, sparking the Orange on a 7-2 scoring run that gave Syracuse a 9-4 halftime lead. SU continued to apply the offensive pressure in the second half as it registered four unanswered goals to take its largest lead of the game at 13-4 with 27:32 to play. Kempney had two goals during the run.
Notre Dame responded with four straight goals to get within five, but that was close as the Fighting Irish could get. Junior Michelle Tumolo scored SU's first goal in nearly 23 minutes and freshman Gabby Jaquith netted her second goal of the game to give the Orange a seven-goal advantage. Notre Dame responded with back-to-back scores, but Kempney recorded the final goal of the game for the 16-10 final.
Sophomore Katie Webster recorded five points (4 goals, 1 assist), while Tumolo added three goals. Sophomore Alyssa Murray finished with five points on two goals and three assists.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers opened the season with two losses but has won seven of its last nine to improve its record to 7-4 overall. The Scarlet Knights defeated Villanova, 13-5, on Thursday and is 2-1 in BIG EAST play this season.
Ali Steinberg and Stephanie Anderson have recorded 30 or more points this season. Steinberg leads the way with 33 points (22g, 11a), while Anderson has 30 points on a team-leading 27 goals and three assists. Danielle Mascera has a team-high 24 assists.
Lily Kalata has started every game in goal for Rutgers. She has an 8.96 goals-against average and a .441 save percentage.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series against Rutgers, 13-3. The Orange has won the last 11 meetings between the two schools.
