BUFFALO - Syracuse alum and former women's basketball star Felisha Legette-Jack has been hired as head coach at the University at Buffalo, athletic director Danny White announced last week. The two-time honorable mention All-American and SU's fourth all-time leading scorer was most recently head coach at Indiana.
Legette-Jack was head coach of the Hoosiers for six seasons, leading IU to at least 18 wins in each of her first three seasons at the helm, including 21 in 2008-09. The Hoosiers advanced to postseason tournaments three times under her.
Prior to her time in Bloomington, Legette-Jack has head coach at Hofstra for four seasons, turning the Pride around from 8-21 to 19-12. She was named CAA Coach of the Year in 2007-08.
She takes over a Bulls program that is coming off a 9-22 season in 2011-12 which included a 4-12 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
A Syracuse native and graduate of Nottingham High School, Legette-Jack was a four-time All-BIG EAST performer for SU, including being named the conference's Rookie of the Year in 1984-85, an award she is still the only Syracuse player to ever receive. She went on to earn honorable mention All-American honors as a sophomore and a junior, led SU to its first NCAA Tournament in 1985 and finished her career as the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Legette-Jack now ranks fourth in career points in Orange history with 1,526 and second in rebounds with 927.
Legette-Jack was an assistant at Syracuse from 1993-2000, serving as the program's recruiting coordinator among other duties. She went on to be an assistant at Michigan State for the following two seasons before being hired at Hofstra.
