Roberts named Marietta Daily Journal Player of the Year

Awards keep rolling in for Coach Q's incoming freshman. Forward Pachiyaanna Roberts has been named the Marietta Daily Journal's Female Athlete of the Year. Besides being a Parade All-American and Georgia's Miss Basketball, the 5-11 Roberts was also a four-year starter for both the volleyball and soccer teams at McEachern High School.
“I'm really honored by this, and honored for all of the awards that I've received,” Roberts told the Daily Journal. “but I don't play for the awards. I play because it's fun.”

Legette-Jack hired at Buffalo

Former SU star Felisha Legette-Jack has been hired as the new head coach at Buffalo. The two-time honorable mention All-American and program's fourth all-time leading scorer was most recently the head coach at Indiana for the last six seasons. Here is some of the news covering her hire:

Roberts named Atlanta Journal Constitution Player of the Year

Incoming freshman forward Pachiyaana Roberts has been named the girls' basketball Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The Powder Springs, Ga. native has already been named Miss Basketball for the state of Georgia and a Parade All-American.
Here is what the AJC had to say about her:
Pachiyaanna Roberts, McEachern: The 5-foot-11 senior averaged 17.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals, 2.4 assists and 1.7 blocked shots in leading the Indians to a 33-0 record and their first state championship. McEachern won the Class AAAAA final by 33 points, the most lopsided championship game ever in the state's highest classification. Roberts has signed to play basketball at Syracuse.
New video boards & LED ribbon for the Carrier Dome

The fans' experience at Syracuse women's basketball games this coming season, not to mention football, men's basketball and men's and women's lacrosse as well, will be greatly improved with the addition of brand-new high definition video boards and a 360-degree LED ribbon that will wrap around the fascia of the upper deck.
As the rendering above shows, the new video boards will be larger, sharper, and clearer, while the ribbon will certainly add to the atmosphere at the "Loudhouse".

'Legends & Stars' on Sunday at Drumlins

The fourth annual "Legends & Stars" event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at Drumlins. The proceeds of the event, in which Quentin Hillsman will be participating in, benefit the Elmcrest Children's Center
Advance tickets are available in advance at Wegmans for $10 or $5 for children 4-18 years old. Those prices increase at the door to $13 for adults and $7 for children. Kids 3 and under get in free.

Troya Berry playing semi-pro ball in Flint

Recent alum Troya Berry is playing for a semi-pro team in her hometown of Flint, Mich. Berry is playing for the Flint Monarchs of the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League. They kicked off their season with two games last weekend, going 1-1. Berry scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds in a loss on Friday and scored 10 points in a win on Saturday.
Berry and the Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they face the Detroit Black Hawks.
The 6-2 post player saw action in 23 games for the Orange in 2011-12.

The fourth annual SU Legends & Stars event will be held at Drumlins on Sunday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Several Syracuse coaches and student-athletes will be in attendance, including women's basketball head coach Quentin Hillsman. Several other SU coaches, such as Jim Boeheim, Doug Marrone, John Desko and Gary Gait will also be there, as well as former SU stars such as Rob Drummond, Paul Gait and Chris Gedney.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door. All proceeds from the event benefit the Elmcrest Children's Center.

Alexander finishes European Tour with Canada Basketball

Rising senior Kayla Alexander just finished a five-game tour in Europe with the Canadian Developmental Team. The 6-4 center from Milton, Ontario finished the trip strong with nine-point, five-reound and seven-point, five-rebound efforts in the final two games, averaging 16 minutes. Canada finished the tour with a 1-3-1 record.
Canada coach Fabian McKenzie had this to say: “It was an adjustment for Kayla throughout the tour, but she showed great determination and progress as the tour went on,” said the Cape Breton University head coach. “If she continues to work hard on her skills and her physical strength, I could see a long international career for her.”

Sykes records double-double in USA Basketball opener

Incoming freshman Brittney Sykes was impressive in her USA Basketball opener, scoring 12 points and dishing out 11 assists in the U18 National Team's 97-36 victory over Brazil to close out the team's training camp in Orlando on Thursday. The 5-9 guard from Newark, N.J. also grabbed five rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Troya Berry playing semi-pro ball in Flint
