SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse cross country team aims to follow its path of success after an historic 2011 season as SU head cross country coach Chris Fox announced the team's 2012 schedule on Wednesday. The Orange captured its third-straight NCAA Northeast Regional Championship last season while the men's team was ranked a program-best 12th in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) John McDonnell Program of the Year Award.
The Orange open up its 2012 season on Sept. 1st at the Harry Lang Invitational which is hosted by Colgate. In 2011, Syracuse captured wins in both the men's and women's races. Following the Harry Lang Invitational, SU travels to the Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 8th.
On October 12th, both the men and the women's teams travel to face the men's defending national cross country champions, Wisconsin, at the Wisconsin Meet of Champions. Next up for SU is the John Reif Memorial at Cornell on Oct. 19th. Last season, redshirt sophomore Reed Kamyszek led the Orange at the John Reif Memorial with a second place finish with a time of 26:48. The men will look to add to their 2009 and 2010 BIG EAST titles while the women search for their first conference title on Oct. 26th at the BIG EAST Championship. This year's championship is hosted by St. John's at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, N.Y. Following the league championships, the Orange travel to Madison, Conn. and will attempt to win its fourth-straight NCAA Northeast Regional. The regional race takes place at Hammonasset Beach State Park on Nov. 9th.
