Orange tops Albany in opening scrimmage

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Seniors Iona Holloway and Kelsey Millman led the way with two goals each while junior Leonie Geyer and sophomore Jordan Page each added a goal and two assists as Syracuse field hockey defeated Albany in its opening scrimmage of the season.
The teams played three 20-minute periods, followed by a 7-on-7 overtime period, with Syracuse coming away on top 7-3. They completed the day with a shootout, won by the Great Danes, 2-1.
"I'm excited," head coach Ange Bradley said. "We did some good things. We did some things we have been working on in preseason, but there is still a lot of room to grow."
Sophomore Lauren Brooks also scored for the Orange while classmate Stephanie Hussey added an assist.
The Orange returns to action on Tuesday, Aug. 21 when it plays a scrimmage at Lafayette at 4 p.m. A scrimmage originally scheduled to be played at Drexel on Saturday at 1 p.m. has been cancelled.
Syracuse kicks off the regular season on Aug. 24 at Monmouth before opening at home on Aug. 26 against Ohio at 1 p.m.
