#2 Orange Beats Kent State, 7-1, Stays Unbeaten

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - No. 2 Syracuse field hockey improved to 7-0 for the second time in program history and ran its home winning streak to 32 games with a dominating 7-1 victory vs. Kent State (4-5) on Sunday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Liz McInerney scored a goal and assisted on three others, marking the Orange's first three-assist game since Martina Loncarica on Oct. 16, 2011 vs. Vermont, and Jordan Page scored two goals to lead the Syracuse offense.
Lauren Brooks, Kelsey Millman, Iona Holloway and Anna Crumb all added goals of their own as Head Coach Ange Bradley's team controlled all facets of the game throughout, outshooting the Golden Flashes, 33-2, and outcornering them 11-2.
The Orange has started a season 7-0 for the second time ever. The other was in 2008 when Syracuse started a program best 14-0 before eventually making its first Final Four appearance.
McInerney set up three of the Orange's first four goals as it took control early, building a 4-0 halftime lead. The graduate student midfielder assisted on Brooks' opening goal in the seventh minute as the sophomore took over the team scoring lead with six on the season.
After Millman netted her fifth goal of the season off a Emma Russell assist in the ninth minute, McInerney set up Page and Holloway goals in the 16th and 20th minutes, respectively. It was the first score of the season for the senior defender Holloway.
McInerney netted her second goal of the year with a blast from high in the circle just 45 seconds into the second half before Julia Hofmann scored the Golden Flashes lone goal off a penalty corner at the 39-minute mark, making it 5-1.
Stephanie Hussey set up Crumbs second goal of the season in the 62nd minute and Page closed the scoring with her second of the day and fourth of the season in the 63rd minute.
Jhana Jordan made 16 saves for the Golden Flashes, while senior goalkeeper Leann Stiver played the first 42:12 for the Orange before giving way to freshman Jess Jecko for the final 27:48.
Syracuse's 32-game home winning streak dates back to 2009 and has seen SU outscore the opposition 140-25.
Syracuse (1-0 BIG EAST) travels to New Jersey for a pair of games next weekend. The action starts on Friday at Rutgers at 3 p.m. before taking on the team it is tied at No. 2 in the NFHCA poll with, Princeton, on Sunday at 2 p.m.
