SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Fourteen home games at the Carrier Dome and nine games against NCAA Tournament teams from last season highlight the 2012-13 Syracuse women's basketball schedule.
Head Coach Quentin Hillsman's Orange, which has won 22 or more games in three straight seasons, will play a 29-game regular season schedule, comprised of 13 non-conference games and 16 conference games in Syracuse's final season in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse women's basketball season tickets remain one of the best values for fans. First level season tickets can be purchased for $90, and just $75 for current men's basketball patrons. Youth (12 and under) and senior (60 and over) season tickets are only $45. Single game tickets are $10, or just $5 for groups of 20 or more. Parking for women's games is free in the Stadium West areas.
"Our focus is to get the best schedule possible to position ourselves for the NCAA Tournament," Hillsman said. "That was our focus with scheduling road games that will strengthen our non-league RPI and put ourselves in position for the NCAAs."
Also highlighting the schedule are three Saturday doubleheader dates with the men's team at the Carrier Dome. On Dec. 8, the women face Loyola while the men take on Monmouth. Jan. 12 is the first of two BIG EAST doubleheaders as the women take on Georgetown and the men face Villanova. March 2 consists of the women vs. Villanova and the men vs. Louisville.
Complete game times will be announced at a later date. All times that are released are subject to change.
Syracuse will also compete at the San Juan Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Nov. 23-24 against ACC teams Georgia Tech and Virginia.
Currently, the Orange is slated to appear on national and regional television five times. Syracuse will be on the BIG EAST Network as its "Game of the Week" on Feb. 16 vs. Pittsburgh and Feb. 23 at USF. SU will play in the CBS Sports Network Game of the Week three times: Feb. 19 vs. Rutgers, Feb. 26 at Notre Dame and March 4 vs. Louisville.
Coming off its fifth-straight postseason appearance and first ever WNIT semifinal run, Syracuse will play nine games against NCAA Tournament teams from 2011-12, four of which will be played at the Carrier Dome (Georgetown, DePaul, Rutgers and Louisville). Eight of those nine NCAA opponents won at least one game in the tournament, while four advanced to the Sweet Sixteen (Georgia Tech, Connecticut, St. John's and Notre Dame) and two were in the Final Four (UConn and Notre Dame).
The season tips off on Sunday, Nov. 11 against Fairleigh Dickinson at the Carrier Dome, the Orange's lone home contest in November, though it will play in Central New York on Nov. 16 in Ithaca against Cornell.
December will be a busy month at the "Loud House" as Syracuse will host five straight home non-conference games against Wagner (12/4), Loyola (12/8), Binghamton (12/15), Washington State (12/21) and Boise State (12/30).
As was announced by the BIG EAST on June 13, the Orange will play Georgetown and Villanova twice each and every other conference foe once.
After BIG EAST play commences on Jan. 5 at Marquette, the Orange host Georgetown (1/12) and DePaul (1/15) before hitting the road for three in a row at Connecticut (1/19), St. John's (1/23) and Villanova (1/26).
For the rest of the regular season, it will be alternating two-game homestands and two-game road trips for the Orange as it hosts Seton Hall (1/30) and Providence (2/2) before heading to Cincinnati (2/5) and Georgetown (2/12). It's then back home to face Pittsburgh (2/16) and Rutgers (2/19) before playing the final two road games at USF (2/23) and Notre Dame (2/26).
The regular season concludes with a Friday-Monday homestand at the Carrier Dome against Villanova (3/2) and Louisville (3/4).
The 2013 BIG EAST Championship will be played March 8-12 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
Hillsman's Orange look to be an exciting team in 2012-13 as it returns four starters from a season ago, including two-time All-BIG EAST center Kayla Alexander, while also welcoming in a talented freshmen class of five that was the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the country.
