
Barber and Tyson-Thomas Named Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Graduate student Ryan Barber (Camillus N.Y.) of the men's lacrosse team and senior Carmen Tyson-Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the women's basketball team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the Week of January 28th.

Barber has seen action in 37 games of his career at midfield for the men's lacrosse team. Last season, he notched eight points off of five goals and three assists as a member of the second midfield. He also picked up five ground balls. Barber has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for six semesters and named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12. Â

Tyson-Thomas has averaged 20.9 minutes per game this season while scoring 199 points in 19 games so far. She averages 10.5 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game. She has 38 steals so far this season while shooting 40 percent from the floor. In 127 career games, Tyson-Thomas has scored 1,099 points. She scored her 1,000th career point against Wagner (12/4/12). Tyson-Thomas was named to the Fall 2009 Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was honored on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in 2009-10.

Barber and the men's lacrosse team travels to Ohio State to face the Buckeyes and Robert Morris in a scrimmage on Saturday Feb. 2, at 11:30 a.m. Tyson-Thomas and the women's basketball team hosts Seton Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 30th at 7 p.m. and Providence on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at 7 p.m.
