Men Take First, Women Take Third at NCAA Northeast Regional

BRONX, N.Y.—The No. 14 Syracuse men's cross country team won the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 15 to earn one of 18 automatic bids to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. The No. 19 women's team finished in third place and will learn its fate for the national championship race tomorrow by 3 p.m. on NCAA.com.
This is the fourth Northeast Regional Championhsip the men have won in the past five years.Â

Martin Hehir was again the top finisher for the men, taking a third place finish in similar fashion to the ACC Championship race. Hehir finished with a time of 30:18.50, missing first place by less than seven seconds and missing second by a tenth of a second in a footrace with Matt Gillespie of Iona.

The team again placed all of its five runners in the top-21 of the race, scoring 57 points, 21 points ahead of No. 26 Dartmouth. Robert Molke finished under one second behind Hehir in fourth place and Griff Graves took 13th with a time of 30:33.10. Ryan Urie finished in 16th and Reed Kamyszek rounded out SU point scorers in 21st place.

The women took third place behind No. 2 Providence and No. 12 Dartmouth, finishing with 135 points. Margo Malone was the top finisher for SU, taking 11th place with a time of 20:31.10. Meredith Speakman took 19th place and the rest of the Orange point scorers finished within the top-45 runners in a field of 254.
