ATLANTA - Syracuse let a 2-1 match lead slip away as Georgia Tech rallied to win the match in five sets on Sunday, Nov. 24 at O'Keefe Gym.
After dropping the first set, SU (14-16, 9-9 ACC) won a close second set and had little trouble in the third set to go up 2-1. The Yellow Jackets (12-18, 6-12 ACC) rallied to win both the fourth and fifth sets for the win to split the season series with the Orange (25-20, 21-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-13). Syracuse swept Georgia Tech at home on Oct. 25. It was also only the first time SU dropped a five-setter since Sept. 21 against Northern Kentucky.
In the fifth set, Syracuse got off to a fast start, racing out to an 8-4 lead and looked to be in control. The Orange still led 9-7 when Georgia Tech went on a 4-1 run to regain the advantage at 11-10. A kill by redshirt junior Lindsay McCabe and block by sophomores Silvi Uattara and Monika Salkute momentarily put SU back on top at 12-11. However, the Yellow Jackets ended the match with four of the last five points to complete the comeback.
Despite outhitting the Yellow Jackets .288 to .160 and holding a major advantage in blocks 19.0-4.0, the Orange was unable to hold off the hosts in the end. It was only the second time all season that Syracuse had a higher attack percentage and lost. SU is now 12-2 in those scenarios. Georgia Tech held the edge on the serve with 16 service aces to two for Syracuse.
For the second straight match, sophomore Silvi Uattara and junior Nicolette Serratore posted double-doubles. Uattara had a team-best 18 kills and 12 digs to go along with five blocks in her seventh double-double of the season. A trio of Orange women each recorded at least eight blocks in contributing to the team's season-high 19 blocks. McCabe and Salkute each finished with nine and sophomore Gosia Wlaszczuk had a career-high eight. One of McCabe's blocks was a solo effort, giving her 62 in her career, which is tied for 10th at SU all-time. She also has 126 block assists on the season, which ranks eighth at Syracuse in a single-season.
Freshman Erica Handley passed out 41 assists for a match-high.

Serratore's seventh kill of the set brought Syracuse within 22-19, but Georgia Tech scored three of the last four points to win.
Neither team led by more than three in the second frame until three unanswered points gave the Orange a 24-20 lead. The teams exchanged sideouts with Salkute smacking a kill to give SU the set. With Georgia Tech up 16-14, Syracuse reeled off a 7-2 spurt to go ahead for good at 21-18. During the stretch, Serratore and Uattara each had a pair of kills and a block.
