SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's volleyball team closes out the regular season on the road at Notre Dame on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Orange (15-16, 10-9 ACC) won its final home game of the season, defeating Boston College in four sets after dropping the first. Freshman Erica Handley posted her first career double-double (26 assists, 10 digs). Redshirt junior Lindsay McCabe led the team in kills with a season-high 10 while junior Nicolette Serratore (22) and sophomore Silvi Uattara (20) each provided a defensive spark with career-high digs.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME:
Following a 2-8 start to Atlantic Coast Conference play, the Fighting Irish (12-17, 6-12 ACC) have split their past eight matches. Notre Dame will meet Boston College one last time before squaring off with Syracuse in the season finale. 2012 Honorable Mention All-Americans Jeni Houser and Toni Alugbue continue to lead the team this season. Houser has a club-best .313 hitting percentage and 0.96 blocks per set while ranking second with 2.59 kills per set. Alugbue is tops on the squad with 2.86 kills per set and 20 solo blocks to go along with 2.24 digs per set, good for second.
BUILDING BLOCKS:
Lindsay McCabe's 149 total blocks, 129 block assists and 20 solo blocks in 2013 has propelled her into the program's top-10 all-time list for all three categories. She is sixth all-time with 440 career blocks, and 375 career block assists and tied for ninth with 65 solo blocks. The 440 career blocks are also 23rd among active Division I players. McCabe's 129 block assists this year also ranks eighth in a single-season at SU. For the season, the redshirt junior is averaging 1.30 blocks per set, which ranks 44th in the nation and fourth-best in the ACC. In conference-play, McCabe's 1.42 blocks per set is second among individuals.
SERIES HISTORY:
Syracuse and Notre Dame first met in 1981, an Orange win and have played each other every year since 1995. The Fighting Irish won the teams' first BIG EAST meeting in 1990, which began a 16-match win streak against SU. The Orange snapped the run with a 3-2 win in 2011 and won this year's game in straight sets on Nov. 6.
