Faces in the Crowd
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse women's basketball sophomore Brianna Butler is featured in the Dec. 16 issue of Sports Illustrated in its "Faces in the Crowd" section. The 5-11 guard was recognized for her MVP performance at the Paradise Jam over Thanksgiving which garnered her ACC and ESPNw Player of the Week honors.
Butler received her first ACC Player of the Week honor following a MVP performance at the Paradise Jam while leading Syracuse to three straight wins and the Reef Division title. Butler averaged 23.3 points while shooting 57.5 percent in wins over Texas (77-65), Memphis (77-58) and No. 12/11 Texas A&M (78-63). The King of Prussia, Pa., native knocked down 53.8 percent of her attempts from downtown, including seven en route to a career-high 29 points in the Orange's upset win over the Aggies. Along with earning Paradise Jam MVP honors, Butler was also tabbed espnW's National Player of the Week.
The King of Prussia, Pa. native is currently averaging 16.2 points per game and is shooting 42 percent from 3-point range on the season for head coach Quentin Hillsman's No. 23 Orange (9-1). She leads the ACC and ranks third nationally in 3-pointers made per game (3.8), while also ranking 11th in the conference in scoring and eighth in 3-point shooting percentage.
Butler and the Orange return to action on Thursday when they host Niagara at the Carrier Dome in a 7 p.m. tip-off on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
