SU Closes Regular Season on the Road

BALTIMORE, Md. – No. 5/5 Syracusegoes on the road this weekend for its final regular-season games. The Orange plays at No. 12/17 Loyola on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. before facing No. 8/7 Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
Syracuse (12-3) enters the weekend in sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST standings with a 6-0 record. The Greyhounds and Hoyas are in a three-way tie for second place with Connecticut. All three have identical 5-1 marks in conference action. The Orange is trying to secure its sixth BIG EAST regular-season title in the last seven years.
Both games will be broadcast on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse has won seven straight, which has included two wins against teams ranked in the top 20. The Orange's victory against Notre Dame last weekend extended SU's BIG EAST regular-season winning streak to a program-best 18 games, dating back to the 2011 season.
Syracuse has scored early and often in its last five games. The Orange jumped out to a 5-0 lead against Louisville and Cornell and scored the first 12 goals of the game in its victory against Cincinnati. SU started the game against No. 7 Notre Dame with four consecutive goals and had 10 unanswered goals to start the Marquette contest. The offensive unit has been clicking in the last 10 games. During that stretch the Orange is averaging 16.1 goals per game and has recorded 17 or more goals in six contests. Syracuse now ranks sixth in the nation in scoring offense according to the latest NCAA statistics.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Loyola (9-6, 5-1) has won seven of its last eight games and is coming off of a 10-4 victory against Rutgers on April 21. Marlee Paton leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 46 points on 28 goals and 18 assists. Annie Thomas follows in points with 34 on 16 goals and 18 assists, while Hannah Schmitt is close behind with 33 points on 27 goals and six assists. Molly Wolf has started every game in goal for Loyola. She has recorded 95 saves and has a 9.14 goals-against average this season.
Jen Adams has been the head coach for the Greyhounds since 2009. In four seasons, she has guided the Greyhounds to a 63-28 record, back-to-back BIG EAST Championships and two consecutive appearances in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship.
THE SERIES
Friday's game will be the 13th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Loyola. The Orange leads the all-time series, 7-5. Loyola defeated Syracuse 7-3 in the 2012 title game of the BIG EAST Tournament in the Carrier Dome
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown (11-3, 5-1) has won two straight and six of its last seven contests. Caroline Tarzian leads the Hoyas in scoring with 43 points on 30 goals and 12 assists. Rosie Corcoran follows in points with 35 on 15 goals and 20 assists, while Kelyn Freedman has recorded 34 points on 26 goals and eight assists. Barb Black has started every game in goal for Georgetown. She has recorded 62 saves and has a 9.48 goals-against average this season.
Ricky Fried is in his ninth season as head coach at Georgetown. Under Fried, Georgetown has earned six BIG EAST regular-season titles and has made four trips to the BIG EAST Tournament title game, winning the championship in 2010.
THE SERIES
Friday's game will be the 21st all-time meeting between Syracuse and Georgetown. The Hoyas
hold a 14-6 advantage in the series. The Orange defeated Georgetown 7-6 in the first round of the 2012 BIG EAST Tournament in the Carrier Dome.
UP NEXT…
Syracuse will travel back to Georgetown next week for the BIG EAST Tournament. The semifinals are set for Thursday, May 2 and the championship game will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
