Ice Hockey Hosts Four NCAA Tourney Teams in 2013-14

2013-14 Ice Hockey Schedule
The Syracuse women's ice hockey team will face four teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA tournament during its 2013-14 schedule, which was released by head coach Paul Flanagan on Tuesday, May 15. The tentative schedule features 16 home games which will be held at the Tennity Ice Pavilion and has the Orange facing the University of Vermont for the first time in school history.
The Orange kicks off the 2013-14 season on the road, traveling to Northeastern University on Friday, Oct. 4 and then to New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 5. Syracuse then participates in its first home-and-home series of the season, hosting Clarkson on Friday, Oct. 11 and traveling to face the Golden Knights on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Postdam, NY.
During the weekend of Oct. 18-19, the icers will head out to Providence College for a two game series. This will be the first time the Orange will face the Friars since playing them in 2010. The Orange will also face off against another team they haven't seen since 2010 when they welcome Boston College on Friday, Oct. 25. The Eagles advanced to the 2013 Frozen Four, falling to Minnesota, who eventually won the national championship. SU wraps up the weekend hosting Union on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The Orange begin the College Hockey America season with back-to-back series on the road, traveling to Penn State (Nov. 9-10) and Mercyhurst (Nov. 15-16). The Lakers also advanced to this year's Frozen Four as well, before being defeated by Boston University.
Syracuse hosts seven-straight games at Tennity Ice Pavilion to finish up the first half of the season. SU welcomes CHA opponent Robert Morris during the weekend of Nov. 22-23 before hosting the first half of a home-and-home series with Colgate on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The Orange also has another mid-week tilt, hosting Cornell on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Lindenwood makes the trip to Syracuse on Dec. 6-7 for a conference series. The Orange's last game of the first half of the season will be on Tuesday, Dec. 10th, when it hosts St. Lawrence University. Coach Flanagan was the head coach at St. Lawrence from 1999-2088, where he led the Saints to the women's NCAA Frozen Four five times in his nine-year tenure, tying him for the most appearances in the country. Assistant coach Alison Domenico played four seasons for the Saints, graduating in 2009.
The Orange returns from break by traveling to the University of Vermont for a two game series from Jan. 2-3. SU will face RIT in two home-and-home series and the locations will be announced at a later date. SU completes its home-and-home series with Colgate on Tuesday, Jan. 14th in Hamilton, NY before hosting Penn State (Jan. 24-25) and Mercyhurst (Jan. 31- Feb. 1). The Orange have consecutive CHA series on the road at Robert Morris (Feb. 7-8) and Lindenwood (Feb. 14-15).                                                                                                                                                                   Â
The CHA tournament begins the weekend of Feb. 28. The top two teams in the regular season standings receiving byes to the league semifinals. The No. 3 and No. 6 seeds, as well as the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, will square off on campus sites.
