BLACKSBURG, Va. – For the second consecutive contest, the Syracuse women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to a ranked opponent when the Orange lost at No. --/22 Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon.
"Virginia Tech plays a very direct style of soccer, said head coach Phil Wheddon. "They have some very dangerous and very athletic players. We did well and were effective in shutting them down, we just weren't able to do it for 90 minutes. They had quality opportunities and finished all three."
The Hokies (6-1-1, 1-1 ACC) got a stellar performance from Jazmine Reeves, who had a part in all three of Virginia Tech's scores. SU goalkeeper Brittany Anghel turned away Reeves' first attempt of the game in the ninth minute, however Reeves retaliated by receiving a pass outside of the box and split a pair of Orange defenders to beat Anghel for a her fifth goal of the season.Syracuse's (4-4, 0-2 ACC) first scoring opportunity came in the 32nd minute when Maddie Damm sent her corner kick into play and Taylor Haenlin broke free for a header, however Virginia Tech netminder Dayle Colpitts made the save on the Orange's only shot on goal.

"We made a couple of adjustments going into the second half, and for the first 20-25 minutes of the second half, we were the better team. We created some chances, but we didn't capitalize and that was the difference. This is a very unforgiving league and we have to make the most of our chances."
Virginia Tech turned up the pressure beginning in the 52nd minute with Anghel getting her hands on a pair of Mirielle Tiernan shots, then receiving consecutive corner kicks, but the Orange defense stayed strong. In the 59th minute, Cecilia Borgstrom's shot sailed wide for Syracuse and the Hokies capitalized less than two minutes later when Reeves assisted on Kelsey Loupee's second tally of the year.
