Orange Host Perennial National Champs North Carolina Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse (5-9-4, 2-6-1) is set to take on No. 5/5 North Carolina (11-2-2, 8-0-1), which has won 22 national championships, in its last match of the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. The Tar Heels mark the sixth nationally-ranked opponent the Orange has faced this season.

Admission to Sunday's match is free of charge. Syracuse will be raising money for the American Cancer Society. A limited number of pink shoe laces will be available for sale and donations will be accepted to determine the winner of the halftime celebrity shootout.

SENIOR DAY
Syracuse will honor its only senior on the team, Alexis Koval, at the match on Sunday. The Syracuse native has played in 55 matches, including 38 starts in her college career. She has played in all 18 games this season, making three starts. Koval has tallied six goals and three assists in her career at SU. In her senior season, Koval scored the game-tying goal against Connecticut and assisted on Alex Lamontagne's goal against Albany.

SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina is currently ranked No. 5 in both the NSCAA poll and the Soccer America poll. The team is second in the ACC behind the Florida State Seminoles. The Tar Heels are looking to extend their 11-game unbeaten streak. Ten of those matches were wins and one was a 1-1 tie against No. 2 Florida State. Both the Tar Heels and the Seminoles were undefeated in ACC play (8-0-0) prior to the tie. Sophomore midfielder Joanna Boyles leads the team with 12 points (3g, 6a), followed by sophomore forward Emily Bruder with 11 points (5g, 1a)

THE SERIES
Syracuse faced off against North Carolina for the first time last year in its inaugural season in the ACC. The Orange traveled to Chapel Hill to take on the defending national champions on October 17, 2013. Summer Green of North Carolina scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute of the match off a free kick. Orange goalkeeper Brittany Anghel made five saves.
