Orange Road Trip Begins at No. 2 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Syracuse is back on the road this weekend for a pair of matches, beginning Thursday, Oct. 9 at No. 2/2 Florida State at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Orange is coming off a 3-0 victory against Boston College, which improved its record to 5-5-3 overall and 2-2-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action. The Seminoles have won seven straight matches are enter Thursday's contest with an 11-1 record. Florida State is tied for the top spot in the ACC with a 4-0 league record.

Syracuse remains on the road for a Sunday matinee at No. 24/-- Clemson at 1 p.m. The Tigers are 8-2-2 overall, 1-2-1 in the ACC.

SYRACUSE VERSUS RANKED OPPONENTS
The Orange will face a ranked team for the second time this season when it takes on Florida State. Earlier this season SU lost to Penn State, which was ranked No. 24 at the time, on Aug. 24. The Nittany Lions are now No. 6/7. Connecticut was receiving votes in the national poll when it took on Syracuse on Sept. 1. That match ended in a 1-1 tie. Five of Syracuse's final six opponents this season are ranked in the top 25.

SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE
Florida State is the defending ACC champion. The Seminoles advanced to the national championship match last season where it lost to UCLA, 1-0. This season, Florida State is 11-1, with its only loss coming to No. 5 Florida.

Berglind Thorvaldsdottir leads the team in scoring with 19 points and is tied for first in the ACC in goals with nine. Dagny Brynjarsdottir, a candidate for the MAC Herman Trophy, has seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Goalkeeper Cassie Miller has started all 12 matches for the Seminoles and has a 0.49 goals-against average. She has not allowed a goal in the last four matches.

SCOUTING CLEMSON
Clemson enters the weekend with a 1-4 record in its last five matches. Sophomore Catrina Atanda leads the team with 11 points (5g, 1a), while three of her teammates are tied for second with 10 points.

THE SERIES
Syracuse is 0-2-0 against Florida State. The two last came together in 2013 where the Seminoles defeated the Orange, 1-0 win in overtime.

Last season's meeting between Syracuse and Clemson was the first between the two schools. The Tigers snapped the Orange's five-game home unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory.
