Gosia Wlaszczuk spread the ball around against the Hurricanes, finding Silvi Uattara for a team leading 12 kills in the match.
Wlaszczuk finished with the second most kills for the Orange, throwing down six for points, swinging .312 on the night to go along with her 19 assists.
Together the pair finished tied for the second most digs in the match with eight each. Belle Sand led 'Cuse once again as the libero with 13 digs on the night.
Monika Salkute was moved back to her natural position due to an upper body injury to Lindsay McCabe. Salkute hit .625 on the night, recording five kills on eight swings without an error as a middle blocker.
Stacey Smith matched Salkute with five kills of her own and the other middle, Leah Levert, tallied three kills.
Syracuse missed McCabe as it struggled with its blocking. Miami out blocked 'Cuse 9-2 and hit an astounding .352 with five 'Canes hitting .345 or better.
Final Effort Falls Short
The first set slipped away from Syracuse quickly as it seemed every time 'Cuse tallied a point, Miami answered with a run. The Hurricanes strung together a 4-0 run to get its distance.
With the score at 10-6 in favor of Miami, the 'Canes extended its lead to 10 with an 8-2 burst to take control of the set, 18-8. From there Miami continued its surge with another run, this time outscoring the Orange 7-2 to take the opening set, 25-10.
The second was much of the same as the Hurricanes jumped out to a 9-3 lead and not once let up on the gas. Miami continued to have an answer for everything 'Cuse threw at it, ultimately winning the second, 25-12.
Syracuse's performance in the final stanza was reminiscent of its first meeting with Miami earlier this season. The set was a back-and-forth fight with the match coming down to the wire with a tie score at 22.
Miami won the next two points, however, the Orange was able to take the next two to tie the set once again at 24. Despite 'Cuse's fight, Miami's top performer, Savannah Leaf took over with a kill to take the lead, and an ace on the ensuing serve to win the match, 3-0 and the set, 26-24.
Season's Toughest Challenge Awaits
The Orange ventures to Florida State to take on the No. 8 Seminoles on Sunday at 1:00 PM. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.
