Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 PM – Clemson (16-9, 4-7 ACC) | Live Stats
Friday, the Orange welcomes the Clemson Tigers to the Women's Building for a 7:00 PM matchup. Clemson enters the match with the risk of dropping three straight as the Tigers fell to Virginia and No. 3 Florida State this past weekend. Despite the loss, each match was a grind going four sets against Virginia and five sets against Florida State.
The Tigers gave Florida State its best shot on Sunday, executing just about every part of the game in elite fashion. Haleigh Hampton was on fire, recording 18 kills with just two errors against the Seminoles and hit .457 on the day. She was joined by Leah Perri who had 17 to her credit. Kate Federico powered the offense with 46 assists. Defensively, the Tigers made it difficult for FSU just to get the ball over the net with 10 team blocks.
Clemson hasn't made it easy on opponents all season, holding the opposing hitters to a .168 hitting percentage, ranking third in the conference. The opponent hitting percentage is largely supported by the fourth best blocking average in the ACC. The Tigers are currently averaging 2.93 per set.
Leading the way at the net is senior middle blocker, Karis Watson. She's climbed the charts this season to the top of the ACC, averaging 1.48 blocks per set. The average ranks her ninth nationally as well. Perhaps Clemson's most important weapon is its setter, Federico. This season the setter owns the fifth best assists average, picking up 9.78 per set.
Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 PM – No. 25 Duke (17-5, 9-2 ACC) | Live Stats
Sunday will be the first time the Orange and the Blue Devils meet in the Women's Building since Syracuse joined the ACC last season. Last year Duke snapped Syracuse's four-game winning streak in four sets as the No. 18 team in the nation.
Duke opens up the weekend looking to get back on track against the thriving Pittsburgh Panthers after falling in a five-set upset to Virginia Tech last weekend. The match was tight throughout, with Duke as the two teams exchanged blows until Tech was able to take the fourth and fifth sets, 25-20 and 15-10.
Despite the loss, Duke is still the most lethal offense the ACC has to offer. The Blue Devils own the conference's top hitting percentage (.271) and kills per set average (14.81). The two stat categories are supported by the ACC's best digs per set average (16.76) and assists per set average (13.97).
Fueling the offense, Sasha Karelov and Kelsey Williams sit atop the conference. Karelov averages the most digs per set (5.42) while Williams averages the most assists per set (11.53). Together they set up a trio of weapons who finish as well as anyone in the conference. Emily Skylar ranks fourth in the ACC, averaging 4.07 kills per set while Jeme Obeime is 10th in the conference, averaging 3.32 per set. When a kill is needed, Williams goes to the sure handed Jordan Tucker, who is finishing on 35% of her swings.
