TOWSON, Md. -- Syracuse tries to take a step closer to its first national championship when it takes on Virginia in the semifinals of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship on Friday, May 23. Opening draw at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md. is set for 5 p.m. The Orange is the No. 2 seed in the tournament while the Cavaliers are the sixth seed.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN3. Fans can also listen to the action on WJPZ 89.1FM and on CuseTV on Cuse.com free of charge.

What to Watch For – Syracuse (20-2)
1. The Orange has advanced to the national semifinals for the third consecutive year for the first time in school history. Overall, Syracuse is making its fifth appearance at championship weekend in the last seven years. The Orange has a record of 1-3 in the national semifinals.
2. The Orange's win against Boston College last week was its 20th of the season, which is the highest single-season total in school history. The previous record of 19 was set in 2012 when Syracuse advanced to the national championship game.
3. Senior Alyssa Murray (West Babylon, N.Y.) needs three more points to become the first player in school history to record 100 points in a season three times in her career. She had 105 points as a sophomore and 104 points last season. Murray ranks second on Syracuse's all-time scoring list with 349 points.
What to Watch For – Virginia (12-8)
1. The Cavaliers upset fourth-seeded North Carolina last weekend in Chapel Hill, posting a 10-9 win to advance to the national semifinals. The win improved Virginia's record to 12-8.
2. Courtney Swan leads a balanced attack for the Cavaliers. She recorded 79 points this season on 53 goals and 26 assists. Liza Blue has tallied a team-best 55 goals and 65 points, while Casey Bocklet is right behind with 60 points on 34 goals and 26 assists. Liz Colgan earned first-team All-America honors after posting 195 saves. She has an 11.54 goals-against average and a .462 save percentage.
3. Head coach Julie Myers is in her 19th season at Virginia. She has guided the Cavaliers to the NCAA Tournament in each of her seasons at the helm of the program, including the 2004 national championship.
THE SERIES
Virginia leads the all-time series with Syracuse, 11-5. The teams met on Feb. 23 in Charlottesville in the Orange's Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) debut. Syracuse led, 11-7 at halftime, but the Cavaliers came back in the second half to cut the lead to two. The Orange responded with a 4-0 scoring run and went on to an 18-14 victory. Sophomore Kayla Treanor led Syracuse with five goals, while junior Kailah Kempney dished out five assists.
