Orange to Face Stony Brook in NCAA Tournament Second Round

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- No. 2 Syracuse begins its quest for its first national championship when it opens play in the 2014 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday, May 9. The Orange hosts Stony Brook at the SU Soccer Stadium at 3 p.m. Syracuse is the tournament's No. 2 seed, which is its highest seeding in school history.
Tickets for Sunday's game are $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 18 and under and students from the participating institutions with a valid student ID.
Live audio and video will be available on CuseTV on Cuse.com free of charge. Fans can also listen to the broadcast of the game on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area.

What to Watch For -- Syracuse (18-2)
1. The Orange is making its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and seventh in the last eight years. Since 2007, Syracuse has won all seven of its opening round NCAA Tournament games.
2. Kayla Treanor (Niskayuna, N.Y.) needs four more points to become the highest scoring sophomore in school history. She enters Sunday's contest with 102 points this season. In 2013 Treanor became the program's highest scoring freshman with 95 points.
3. Senior Alyssa Murray (West Babylon, N.Y.) has recorded 27 points in seven career NCAA Tournament games. Her 19 goals rank third on Syracuse NCAA Tournament leader list behind current assistant Katie Rowan (23) and Christina Dove (22).
What to Watch For – Stony Brook (17-3)
1. Stony Brook advanced to the second round with a 10-8 victory against Towson in the first round on Friday. The Seawolves led 9-1 at halftime and hung on for their 17th victory of the season. Stony Brook earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the America East conference tournament.
2. Dorrien Van Dyke had a hat trick against Towson to improve her team-leading point total to 68. Alyssa Cardillo leads the team in assists with 39. Frankie Caridi has started all 19 games in goal for the Seawolves. She leads the nation in goals-against average, which was 4.58 heading into Friday's first-round game.
3. Joe Spallina is in his third year at the helm of the Stony Brook program. He has guided the Seawolves to back-to-back America East titles and two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament appearances.
