Senior Spotlight: Alyssa Manley
10/14/2015 3:47:00 PM | Field Hockey
With the Syracuse field hockey team honoring its four seniors prior to Sunday's home regular-season finale against No. 19 Princeton, Cuse.com will be spotlighting each one of the team's four seniors each day this week. Previous spotlights:Â Alma Fenne, Jess Jecko
Senior Alyssa Manley has played in every game for the Orange since she arrived on campus in 2012, with Saturday's game against Wake Forest likely to be the Lititz, Pennsylvania native's 58th-straight start.
Manley has been a staple of the Syracuse midfield over the past four seasons, helping lead the Orange to two final fours in her first-three seasons on campus and earning All-America honors in both 2013 and 2014.
After participating at the Pan-Am Games with the United States national team this summer where she scored a goal in the semifinal game, earned a gold medal and helped the nation qualify for the 2016 Olympics, Manley has helped the Orange off to its second-best start in program history and is hoping to lead them back to final-four weekend.
But even with all of her on-field accomplishments, some of her relationships with her teammates and coaches is what sticks out most.
"I've grown so close with the girls and the team it's like a second family up here," Manley said. "Even when we're not on the field we're always together."
It's her relationships on the field with her teammates that have made her a dynamic presence in the midfield. She will enter this weekend tied for 10th in program history with 23 assists, six of which have come already this season.
Manley has also scored big goals for 'Cuse – netting the game-winning goal in Syracuse's 3-2 overtime win over North Carolina to advance to its first NCAA title game in program history, among others.
The Orange will host No. 6 Wake Forest on Saturday at 1 p.m. before facing No. 19 Princeton in Sunday's Senior Day Game.
