SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2015-16 Syracuse men's and women's basketball teams made their official debuts on Jim Boeheim Court in the Carrier Dome at Orange Madness on Friday night.
Both squads were introduced in style, with men's head coach Jim Boeheim, women's head coach Quentin Hillsman, and the rest of the coaching staffs being escorted by members of the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division from the nearby Fort Drum.
Hip-hop artist NF got the teams and Orange Nation excited before the start of the scrimmage and contests. The women's basketball team tipped off soon after, with the Orange team defeating the White team 23-22. Sophomore Danielle Minott led both squads in scoring with nine points.
Following the women's scrimmage, members of the men's and women's basketball teams, members of the military, and SU students faced off in a four-shot contest and a subsequent 3-point contest.
The men's basketball team scrimmaged following the four-shot and 3-point competitions. Senior center DaJuan Coleman made his return to the court after spending a year and a half rehabilitating from a knee injury. Combining with the women's score from their scrimmage, an alley-oop by Paschal Chukwu from Christian White sealed a 60-57 victory for the White team.
A dunk contest concluded the action on the court, with sophomore forward Doyin Akintobi-Adeyeye coming out victorious against graduate student guard Trevor Cooney and freshman forward Tyler Lydon.
The players, coaches and fans then moved to the backcourt area of the Dome and for the second year in a row ended the night with Cuse Selfies, providing a great opportunity for the Orange and the community to interact before the 2015-16 begins.
