NCAA Championships set to get underway on Saturday
The Syracuse men's cross country team remained No. 2 in the final USTFCCCA Poll before this week's NCAA Championship and collected a first place vote, while the women moved up one spot to No. 18 following a second-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
The men have been No. 2 for much of the season and swept the top-three spots at the NCAA Northeast Regional to convincingly roll to the program's ninth regional championship, while Margo Malone's eighth-place finish led a women's squad to improve two places from last year's race.
Colorado (359 points, 11 first-place votes) remained at No. 1 as it has every week of 2015, with the Orange (346 points) right behind. Stanford (322 points), Oklahoma State (314 points) and Michigan (309 points) round out the top-five on the men's side.
Behind Syracuse are five-other ACC teams, with Virginia (12th), Louisville (14th), NC State (17th), Virginia Tech (22nd) and Florida State (30th) in the poll this week heading into nationals.
The women's poll is led by New Mexico with 358 points and 10 first-place votes. The Lobos have been ranked No. 1 all season as well.
In addition to the Orange, four other ACC teams are in this week's poll, with Virginia (7th), NC State (9th) and Notre Dame (15th), ahead of 'Cuse. North Carolina (30th) is also ranked, with Boston College receiving votes.
Syracuse will look for its first podium finish since 1957 at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.
