The senior guard now ranks 11th in program history in scoring
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior guard Brianna Butler will certainly have left her mark on the Syracuse University women's basketball program following her final season on campus. Butler has been climbing the Syracuse record books through six games in 2015-16.
Â
The senior guard entered the Maryland contest on Dec. 2 with 1,209 points scored in her collegiate career, which put her at 14th place on the Syracuse all-time scoring list. Butler emphatically shot up the record book after her performance against the Terrapins.
Â
"There's no question, Butler had a great night," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "She was aggressive. She really hunted her shot. I give her a lot of credit."
Â
Butler scored a season-high 22 points in the team's sixth game of the season. It marked her second 20-point game of the 2015-16 campaign and 11th of her collegiate career.
Â
In the process, Butler moved up three spots on the Syracuse all-time scoring list. She passed Sue Ludwig (1,214 points), Jaime James (1,215 points), and Carmen Tyson-Thomas (1,230 points) on the list and now ranks 11th in program history with 1,231 points scored.
Â
The King of Prussia, Pa. product currently leads the team in scoring on the year, averaging 15.7 points per game. At the pace she is going at, Butler could finish her career as one of the top-five scorers in program history.
Â
Butler and the No. 20/25 Orange return to the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome on Sunday afternoon when they host Stony Brook on Faith and Family Day. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. and will be televised on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and ESPN3. Fans are invited to bring a toy to donate for the holidays to the game, as well.
