
Ebangwese, Levert Power ‘Cuse to Victory Over Clemson

Orange outlast Tigers in four sets
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Orange volleyball team extended its conference win streak to two on Friday night at Jervey Gym in Clemson, S.C., as it defeated Clemson in four sets (22-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-23). Syracuse is now 4-3 in conference play and 5-12 on the season.
The Orange fell in the first set, but recollected and held on to the momentum through the next three to seal the victory over the Tigers (5-14, 0-7 ACC).
Syracuse sophomore Santita Ebangwese led the Orange with a career-high 14 kills on the night (14K – 3E – 27A) to hit .407 percent. Ebangwese added five assisted stops at the net to rank third on the team.
Junior Leah Levert was right behind Ebangwese with 13 kills of her own, tying a career-high mark from last season. Levert recorded a team-high nine assisted stops at the net.
Sophomore Jalissa Trotter contributed offensively and defensively, as she recorded 41 assists, two kills, one solo block and an assisted stop on the night.
From the back court, junior Belle Sand tallied 22 digs to tie her season-high mark.
The Orange and the Tigers kept each set within no more than three points, bringing the third set to extra scoring.
The pair traded four-point runs to start off the first set, tying the game first at eight and then at 14. The Tigers pulled away and never looked back, as they were able to close out the first set, 25-22, over the Orange.
Syracuse trailed early on in the second, but took over the lead until the score was tied at seven. The lead shifted back-and-forth until the Orange were able to secure a five-point run to force the Clemson timeout (22-19 SU).
Clemson tied it up out of the break with a three-point run, but the Orange held on to come out on top of the second set, 25-23.
After a quick Clemson start in the third, the Orange minimized the gap and maintained until the game was tied, 23-23. The Tigers called a time out as the 25-point mark neared.
A two-point Syracuse run brought the Orange to game point (25-24 SU), but the Tigers forced the extra points further with a kill.
'Cuse held onto the lead and finished out set three on top, 27-25.
Clemson led early on in the fourth much like the first three, but the Orange fought their way back point-by-point thanks to a five-set run in the middle of the set.
The game remained within no more than two points until the Orange were able to close out the set, 25-23, and the game, 3-1.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Atlanta, Ga., to face off against Georgia Tech. The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
