Knight Earns Another National Honor
10/17/2016 3:11:00 PM | Cross Country
After picking up his second individual victory of 2016 on Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour, Syracuse standout junior Justyn Knight has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.
It's the second time this season the Vaughan, Ontario native has received the honor after also collecting it following his victory at the Panorama Farms Invitational in September – his only other competition of the season.
Knight used a hard kick at the end of the meet to pass NC State's Sam Parsons and win the race by two seconds over second place finisher Fustum Zienasellassie from Northern Arizona. Knight crossed the line in 23:53.1 at the 8k Thomas Zimmer Course to win the meet.
A top-five finisher at the 2015 NCAA Championships, securing the team title for the Orange, the junior is seeking his second-straight All-America performance in cross country, and fifth-straight season earning All-America status having already done so twice in outdoor track, and once in indoor in his career at Syracuse.
Majoring in social work in the David B. Falk College, Knight led the Orange to a fourth-place finish on the weekend, likely the last meet before the ACC Championship for the championship roster.
Syracuse will close out its regular season at the John Reif Memorial Invitational on Friday.
