The Syracuse men's and women's cross country teams will begin the NCAA Championships portion of its season on Friday at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
We're Going Streaking
- The Syracuse men have an opportunity to win their fourth-straight NCAA Northeast Region title and seventh title since 2009.
- The women are seeking their first title since 2011 and fourth under head coach Chris Fox.
- Last year's Orange turned in the most dominant performance in the event's history, with a low total of 29 points, besting Iona's 33 from 2005.
About the NCAA Northeast Regional
- The meet will take place in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y., the site of both the 2013 and 2014 Northeast Regional.
- The women will race a 6k beginning at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 10k.
Ranking the Orange
- The men enter the meet at No. 5 in the USTFCCCA coaches poll, while the women are receiving votes.
- Syracuse has been ranked in the top-six of every poll for the last three seasons on the men's side.
Knight Time
- Junior Justyn Knight has put on a show in his first-three meets of 2016.
- The Vaughan, Ontario native has been twice named USTFCCCA Performer of the Week after winning both the Panorama Farms Invitational and the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational before winning the ACC Championship in his last season.
- Knight is the first member of the Orange since at least 2000 to win three individual meets in the same season this weekend, and is looking to keep his perfect record intact this weekend.
Pack Running
- In addition to Knight's stellar performance, a total of seven Syracuse men picked up All-ACC honors for their success at the ACC Championship. Knight (1st), Colin Bennie (5th), Iliass Aouani (6th), Joel Hubbard (8th), Philo Germano (9th), Adam Visokay (19th) and Kevin James (21st) all earned the accolade.
