Orange seniors scored 61 points at Stony Brook
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the second-consecutive contest, it was the veterans that guided the Syracuse women's basketball team to victory. Syracuse's five seniors combined for 61 points in the team's 78-60 victory at Stony Brook on Nov. 18.
In the past two games, the Orange's five seniors, Bria Day, Briana Day, Alexis Peterson, Isabella Slim, and Brittney Sykes, have contributed 133 of the club's 180 total points scored. Nearly three quarters of the team's scoring output has come from the hands of the Syracuse seniors.
Sykes led the way with a season-high 19 points against the Seawolves, Alexis Peterson chipped in 16 points. Looking to prove that they are one of America's best backcourts in 2016-17, the duo has averaged 35.0 points per game this season.
"They are very good guards," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "It was a tough game and I am really proud of our kids for being tough."
Briana Day had at least 10 points for the third time in as many games this year, while Slim scored in double-figures for the second straight game. Bria Day, in her first game of the 2016-17 campaign, contributed two points on two free throws made.
The Orange are back in action on Monday night at Drexel. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.
