Four student-athletes named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Squads
The Syracuse cross country team won its first National Championship since 1951 this season and were just as successful in the classroom as well, taking home the USTFCCCA Scholar Team of the Year award, with four student-athletes, two men and two women, honored on the USTFCCCA Academic squads.
The Orange are just the second team ever from the ACC to earn USTFCCCA Scholar Team of the Year honors, joining the 2010 Florida State squad.
Â
In addition to the men's award, the Orange women were selected as one of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. In order to earn team recognition the cumulative team GPA must be over 3.0, which both the men and women's teams earned this season and were recognized for by the organization.
Â
Martin Hehir, who was named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year last week, his third time earning the honor between cross country and track, was one of the two men honored along with Colin Bennie. Hehir and Bennie each turned in All-American performances at the NCAA Championship, finishing in the top-10 and earning both All-ACC and ACC All-Academic honors this season.
The duo are two-of-16 student-athletes to earn both USTFCCCCA All-America and All-Academic honors.
On the women's side, ACC bronze medalist Margo Malone and Cassia Hameline were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. The duo was part of an Orange squad that posted its second-best finish in program history at the NCAA Championship this fall, taking 12th.
