Orange Attack combines for 17 points in 14-12 Win Over #14 Duke
4/3/2016 3:06:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
A 9-2 run over the final-20 minutes of the first half put the game out of reach for the No. 4 Syracuse women's lacrosse team (10-3, 3-1 ACC) in its 14-12 win over No. 14 Duke (8-5, 3-1 ACC) on Saturday.
The Orange jumped out to an early lead, thanks to the play of the Syracuse attack unit, with Kayla Treanor, Nicole Levy and Halle Majorana combining for 16 points on the day. The Blue Devils clawed back into the game late, but Syracuse's lead was insurmountable and 'Cuse won its first-of-two games on the day.
Majorana opened the scoring four minutes into play, with Riley Donahue finishing a pass from Treanor less than a minute after Majorana's goal to give SU an early two-goal advantage.
However, Duke rallied quickly and went on a 3-0 run to take their only lead of the game with 21:40 to play in the first half. Emma Laxaroff, Maddy Acton and Stuart Humphrey recorded goals in the Blue Devils' run, but that's when the Orange took over.
Treanor scored her first-of-three goals on the day with 20:50 left before halftime to start the run. The senior also contributed four assists for a game-high seven points and also chipped in 10 draw controls. The goal was also the start of six-straight which were scored by either Levy, Treanor or Majorana. Each contributed two goals in the 6-0 Syracuse run, which spanned nearly 14 minutes, with Levy and Treanor adding a pair of assists and Majorana contributing one as well in the stretch.
After Ella Bonafede halted the run with 6:13 to go in the half, Kelly Cross found the back of the net after Levy found her cutting toward the cage. Erica Bodt added an unassisted goal with 2:38 left in the period, before Action got Duke back on the board.
Cross then beat the buzzer, scoring as time expired in the half to give Syracuse an 11-5 lead going into the locker room.
Taylor Gait got into the scoring mix 2:36 into the second to open Syracuse's largest lead of the game at 12-5, but that's when the Blue Devils slowly started to chip away.
Action recorded her third of the day four minutes after Gait opened the second-half scoring and Maddie Crutchfield scored to pull Duke within five with 12:08 left in regulation
Emily Resnick broke the Syracuse drought after 16 minutes without a goal, scoring on a feed from Treanor.
Acton and Treanor then traded goals to give Syracuse a 14-8 advantage with 6:25 to go in the game.
Duke managed to score the final-four goals of the game, with Acton and Crutchfield scoring two each in the closing minutes, but the Blue Devils' rally ran out of time and 'Cuse picked up its 10th win of the season.
Both teams recorded 27 shots in the contest, with Allie Murray turning away eight Blue Devil chances in the game.

Syracuse will have little time to enjoy the win, as the Orange hit the road to take on Canisius tonight at 7 p.m. in the second game of a home/road double header.
