Knight Named National Athlete of the Week

After winning his 2016 debut at the Panorama Farms Invitational in convincing fashion, Syracuse standout junior Justyn Knight has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.

Knight used a late kick to overcome an eight second deficit at the 5k mark to Campbell's Lawrence Kipkoech, clearing the final 3,000-meters 24 seconds ahead of the field to win by almost a full-16 seconds in his first race of 2016.

The Vaughan, Ontario native completed the course in 23:13.8, which was 1.4 seconds faster than former teammate Martin Hehir's course record from the 2014 ACC Championship.

Knight was 'Cuse's top finisher during its 2015 NCAA Championship win, taking fourth overall and earn his first All-America honors in cross country. He's also been a two-time All-American in outdoor track and earned All-America status during his only season of indoor competition last season. He's majoring in social work at SU.

The No. 1 Orange finished second at the meet to No. 11 BYU and will next race at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour on Oct. 14.
