WENTZVILLE, Mo. – For the fourth time this season, the Syracuse women's hockey team shut out a College Hockey America foe. The Orange earned a 5-0 victory at Lindenwood on Friday night to improve to 8-10-5 and 7-2-2 in conference play.
"Abbey (Miller) made some huge saves for the shutout and our power play units were very productive," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "It was great to see us compete for a full 60 minutes and grab the two points."
The Orange came firing out of the gate with three goals in the first period, the most in the opening frame for Syracuse all season. Freshman Savannah Rennie got the scoring underway five minutes into the game on Syracuse's only non-power play goal of the night. Stephanie Grossi and Emily Costales each added goals to round out the first period.
A scoreless second period, led into the third where the Orange extended their lead with goals from Larissa Martyniuk and Allie Munroe.
Munroe had a career night, registering four points on one goal and three assists. She's only the seventh player in Syracuse history to record four points in a single game, the second highest mark in program history. She's been on fire in 2017, scoring four of her five goals this season after the New Year.
In all, Syracuse scored four power play goals which ties the school record for the most in a game. It has happened three other times, last taking place Oct. 26, 2013 vs. Union.
It was the fifth shutout of the season for the Orange and the fourth straight time they have held Lindenwood scoreless dating back to last season. The Lions haven't scored against the Syracuse defense in 243:50 of action.
