Justyn Knight became the second runner in the history of the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational to win multiple individual championships, while leading the No. 3 Syracuse men to a third place finish.
Knight – making his season debut – crossed the line in 23:38.5, just 0.4 seconds over Grant Fisher of Stanford in their first head-to-head race since the 2017 NCAA Outdoor 5k that Fisher won.
The 'Cuse women finished 18th overall, paced by a 24th place finish from Paige Stoner.
For the men, Northern Arizona took the team title, amassing just 50 points, while Portland finished second with 123 points. 'Cuse collected 151, while Stanford finished fourth with 155.
Â
Behind Knight, Aidan Tooker turned in his first top-10 performance in a major meet, with the sophomore crossing the line in 23:53.2 to take 10th overall. Colin Bennie finished in 14th (23:54.5) and Philo Germano took 31st. Joe Dragon rounded out the top-five crossing the line in 24:41.7, for 95th.
The women were led by Stoner's big day, crossing the line in 20:16.6, while Shannon Malone took 46th in 20:36.3. Rachel Bonner finished in 92nd, crossing the line in 21:14.2. Madeleine Davison (21:28.7) and Eva Scott (22:25.8) rounded out the 'Cuse scoring in 123rd and 203rd, respectively.
