Syracuse met members of the local media on Friday
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2017-18 Syracuse women's basketball team met members of the local media in its annual media day in the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center of Friday afternoon.
Head coach Quentin Hillsman enters his 12th season at the helm of the Orange women's basketball team and is the all-time winningest coach in program history. Hillsman is tasked with replacing four starters from a season ago.
Sophomore guard Gabby Cooper is the club's lone returning starter. Cooper earned Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team accolades after setting the Syracuse freshman single-season 3-point field goals made (81) record.
Redshirt junior guard Miranda Drummond, redshirt senior guard Jasmine Nwajei, and redshirt junior guard Isis Young all sat out the 2016-17 season, due to NCAA transfer regulations. Drummond made 60 3-point field goals in two seasons at St. Bonaventure, Nwajei was the leading scorer in the country at Wagner in 2015-16, and Young played two years at Florida.
Freshman center Amaya Finklea-Guity, sophomore guard Tiana Mangakahia, and freshman forward Digna Strautmane were all a part of the Orange's heralded recruiting class and will see prominent roles on the floor this season. Both Mangakahia and Strautmane possess valuable international experience, playing for their junior national teams.
'Cuse opens the 2017-18 campaign on Friday, Nov. 10 against Morgan State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
