Knight, Stoner and Fox Take ACC Awards
12/5/2017 11:24:00 AM | Cross Country
After sweeping the ACC individual titles and posting the best finish of ACC student-athletes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Justyn Knight and Paige Stoner swept the conference's performer of the year honors.
In addition, Chris Fox picked up his fifth-straight ACC Coach of the Year nod.
Knight, who became Syracuse's first ever individual NCAA Champion in cross country this season, earned ACC Men's Performer of the Year for the third-straight season. The Vaughn, Ontario native concludes his senior cross country season with three-straight finishes in the top four at the NCAA Championship.
Â
Knight won his second ACC individual title in cross country, bringing his ACC individual title number to eight counting his time on the track. Knight is also a five-time ACC Team Champion, collecting four cross country team titles and the 2016 ACC indoor championship.
Stoner broke out in her senior campaign, becoming the best finisher in Syracuse women's cross country history at both the ACC Championship and NCAA Championship. She's the first Syracuse woman to win the ACC individual title and became just the second All-American in program history with her 17th-place finish at nationals.
Fox has led the Orange to claim the ACC Men's Championship every year since Syracuse has been in the conference. This year, 'Cuse turned in the most dominant conference win in over 20 years, posting just 27 points. The race was so dominant, that the rest of the league combined still failed score below the Orange's total.
In addition to their conference honors, Fox and Knight both repeated as USTFCCCA Northeast Region award winners as well, with Fox taking men's coach of the year for the eighth time and Knight becoming the first student-athlete to win men's performer of the year three times. Knight was also named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Year for his NCAA title run.
