CALGARY, Alta. – For the second consecutive year, Allie Munroe has been invited to attend the Canadian National Women's Program strength and conditioning camp. The camp will be held May 3-7 in Hamilton, Ont.
A total of 83 players were invited to attend, 30 development players and 50 from the under-18 team. Munroe is part of the 30 development players.
According to Hockey Canada, the participants will focus on off-ice sessions, including dryland training, fitness-testing, and physical and mental preparation.
The camp represents the initial step in the selection process for the 2017-18 season. The development team-aged players will continue to be scouted for National Team consideration.
"Our strength and conditioning camp is an opportunity for us to further assess players we've targeted for the national team program, and this year, is a kick-off of our planning for the next quadrennial as we look to build the athlete pipeline to 2022 and beyond," said Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada's general manager of national women's team programs. "The camp also plays as important role for the players who are given a much clearer picture of the expectations of a national team athlete, and a personalized pathway to give them the best opportunity to continue to be part of the national team program."
Munroe earned the Best Defenseman Award in College Hockey America during her sophomore season and was named First Team All-Conference. The Yarmouth, N.S. native finished the season with 21 points after scoring seven goals and connecting on 14 assists.
