
Freshmen Star in International Competition

Four student-athletes represented their home countries in international play
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It certainly was a busy summer for select members of the 2017-18 Syracuse women's basketball team. Freshmen Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi, Marie-Paule Foppossi, Nikki Oppenheimer, and Digna Strautmane all represented their home countries in international competition.
Djaldi-Tabdi and Foppossi both played for the French U19 and U20 national teams. Oppenheimer participated in the FIBA U19 World Cup for Puerto Rico, while Strautmane represented Latvia at the U19 World Cup and FIBA U20 European Championship.
A native of Paris, Djaldi-Tabdi averaged 9.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per contest at the U19 World Cup in Italy. She ranked eighth in rebounding among World Cup competitors, helping the French to a fifth-place showing. Earlier in the summer, Djaldi-Tabdi helped France to a fourth-place finish at the U20 European Championship. She averaged 12.0 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, ranking second in boards at the annual event.
Foppossi served as a team captain for the French U19 and U20 teams at their respective competitions this summer. She led France in scoring at the U19 World Cup, averaging 10.4 points per outing. At the U20 European Championsip, Foppossi notched 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest.
Oppenheimer participated in the U19 World Cup, playing for Puerto Rico. She averaged 9.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per outing in seven games played.
Strautmane represented Latvia at the U19 World Cup and U19 European Championship. She recorded 16.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per outing at the World Cup, ranking sixth in scoring at the biennial competition. At the European Championship, Strautmane registered 18.7 points, 7.4 boards, and 2.1 assists per game. She ranked third in scoring at the annual event.
