Syracuse, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's basketball team moved up to No. 12 in both the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll after three wins last week at the Cancun Challenge.
Syracuse slid up two spots from No. 14 in the AP Top-25, while they jumped three spots from No. 15 last week in the Coaches Poll. 'Cuse began the season ranked No. 18 in both polls and is the highest-ranked one-loss team currently.
The Orange's dominant performance in Mexico included a last second win over No. 16 Depaul thanks to a layup at the buzzer by Tiana Mangakahia to propel Syracuse past the Blue Demons 83-81 in overtime. Mangakahia finished with 22 points for the game and averaged 18 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 7.7 assists for the tournament. The junior guard received honors as Cancun Challenge MVP and ACC Player of the Week for her efforts.
Syracuse is 6-1 on the season and riding a five-game win streak into Thursday's ACC/B1G Challenge game at No. 20/RV Minnesota (5-0). The Orange's only loss of the season was by two points, 75-73, against No. 3/3 Oregon in Eugene on Nov. 10.
This is the highest AP Poll ranking for 'Cuse since November 2016, when the Orange checked in at No. 11.
The Orange have a pair of games this week, first at No. 20 Minnesota on Thursday then back home in the Carrier Dome against Towson on Sunday at 2 p.m.
