DURHAM, N.C. – Syracuse opens ACC Tournament play on Thursday, April 26 when it takes on defending champion North Carolina at 5 p.m. in Durham, N.C. The Orange are the No. 7 seed in the tournament, while the Tar Heels are the second seed.

ORANGE CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH A WIN
Syracuse scored the final 11 goals to break an 8-8 tie and defeat Louisville, 19-8, in the regular-season finale on Sunday. The Orange concluded the regular season with a 9-8 record, including a 1-6 mark in ACC play.

SYRACUSE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
The Orange are making their fifth appearance in the ACC Tournament. Syracuse has an all-time record of 9-3 in the ACC Tournament. The Orange have advanced to the championship game in each of the previous four years and won the ACC Championship in 2015.

GOLDSTOCK AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS
Sophomore goalkeeper Asa Goldstock made 11 saves against Louisville. She has now reached double figures in saves in two straight games and in seven of her last 10 contests. Overall, Goldstock has recorded 10 or more saves nine times in 2018. She now ranks 15th in the nation in total saves (155).

SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak. The Tar Heels enter Thursday's game with a 12-3 record and earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a 6-1 league record.

Four players have recorded 50 or more points this season for North Carolina, led by Katie Hoeg's 63 points. Marie McCool has scored a team-high 48 goals, while Jamie Ortega is right behind with 43. Elise Hennessey has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Tar Heels. She has an 11.28 goals-against average and a .401 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse and North Carolina have played 12 times and each team has won six of those meetings. The squads will meet in the ACC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year.

The teams met earlier this season in the Carrier Dome. North Carolina jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but back-to-back goals by Sam Swart and Mary Rahal brought the Orange within one. The Tar Heels outscored Syracuse, 3-1, for the remainder of the half and led 8-5 at halftime. The Orange scored the first goal after intermission, but North Carolina responded with a 5-1 scoring run and pulled away for the 20-11 victory.

The winner of the Syracuse-North Carolina quarterfinal will take on the winner of the Virginia Tech-Duke contest on Friday, April 27 in the second semifinal of the night.
