Orange, Tigers Meet in NCAA First Round

NEWTON, Mass. -- Syracuse women's lacrosse team opens NCAA Tournament play on Friday, May 11 when it takes on Princeton in the first round in Newton, Mass. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. The Orange enter the tournament with a 9-9 record, while the Tigers are 12-5.

ORANGE IN THE TOURNAMENT
Syracuse is making its seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 11th in the past 12 years. The Orange have an all-time record of 17-15 in NCAA Tournament play and have won nine of their last 10 tournament openers. Syracuse advanced to the national semifinals in five of the past six years and eight of the last 10.

DONAHUE CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Senior Riley Donahue recorded two assists against North Carolina in the ACC Tournament, giving her 82 in her career. She now ranks seventh on Syracuse's all-time assists leader list. Donahue also ranks in the top 10 on the Orange's career leader lists for points and goals.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Princeton earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Ivy League Championship last weekend. The Tigers enter Friday's game on a six-game winning streak.

Kyle Sears leads the Princeton offense. She has 78 points this season on 60 goals and 18 assists. Overall, five different players have scored 20 or more goals for the Tigers this season. Sam Fish has started 10 games in goal for Princeton. She has a 10.25 goals-against average and a .506 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Friday's game will be the third overall meeting and second this season between the two schools. The squads have split the two previous contests, which were both played on the Tigers' home field.

The Orange traveled to Princeton on March 29. Syracuse led 9-5 at halftime but the Tigers scored four straight goals to start the second half to even the score. Neither team could pull away as the game was tied three more times over the next 10-plus minutes. Back-to-back goals gave the Orange a 15-13 lead with 8:34 on the clock before Princeton answered with 3:44 remaining to get within one. After a SU turnover gave the Tigers possession in the final minute, Sam Swart caused a turnover to give the Orange a 17-16 victory.

The winner of Friday's game advances to the second round where it will face No. 4 seed Boston College on Sunday, May 13 at 1 p.m.
