
Mangakahia Named NCAA Statistical Champion

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Tiana Mangakahia finished her first season with the Orange averaging 9.8 helpers per game and tallied a nation-high 304 assists. She led the nation all season in assists per game and now she is officially the 2017-18 NCAA Division I Statistical Champion for assists per game.
The Meadowbrook, Australia, native's 304 assists broke both the Syracuse and Atlantic Coast Conference record for assists in a season. She set the program record for assists in a game (17) on Nov. 24, 2017 in an 84-78 win over Vanderbilt at Paradise Jam.
Mangakahia shattered the Syracuse record for single-season assists surpassing previous record holder Alexis Peterson ('17) by 73 assists. She also passed Peterson for assists per game (7.0) to claim the top spot in the record books.
The communications and rhetorical studies major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts led the Orange in points per game (17.5), assists, assists per game, steals (79) and minutes per game (34.1). She poured in 44 points against Georgia Tech including a near-perfect 20-for-21 from the charity stripe, a program record. Her 44-point performance was the second-most points scored by any male or female 'Cuse player in Carrier Dome history and earned her Citizen Naismith Trophy Player of the Week honors.
Mangakahia was a top-10 finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award in 2018, which recognizes the top point guard in NCAA Division I women's college basketball.
