The United Women's Lacrosse League's (UWLX) third season has just kicked off for the summer, and a staggering 21 Syracuse University alumnae are participating on of the four teams. No other college has more than 10 players in the league.
The Long Island Sound has the most Syracuse representation, with nine former SU players on their team. Current associate head coach Regy Thorpe is the coach for the Sound, while assistant coach Caitlin Defliese also on the roster. The team is 0-2, losing by two goals in each game. Halle Majorana '16 has played very well, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist so far. Taylor Gait '18 has also scored, tallying a goal against the Boston Storm.
The Storm are 2-0, with numerous SU graduates powering their strong start. Kayla Treanor '16 has been a scoring machine, having five goals and an assist over the course of two wins. Katie Webster '14 has also played well, scoring a goal in each game. Liz Hogan '11 has continued to be a brick wall in goal, with 21 saves in a July 7 win against the Baltimore Ride.
The Philadelphia Force are also enjoying a successful start to the season with a 2-0 record. Former Syracuse All-Americans Michelle Tumolo '13 and Alyssa Murray '14 have continued to play well into the pros, with four goals, one assist and two goals, five assists, respectively. In addition, Tee Ladouceur '11 had a hat trick in a win against the Baltimore Ride on June 15.
The Ride are 0-2, but have scored nine goals in each of their games. There are two former Syracuse lacrosse players on the Baltimore squad – Awehiyo Thomas '09 and Erica Bodt '16.
There are two regular season games left for each team, followed by the semi-final and finals. For more information, see unitedwomenslacrosse.com.
The Orange are also represented in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL), which is in its inaugural season. Kailah Kempney '15 is a member of the New York Fight, which is 1-3 this season, while Katie Rowan '09 is the head coach for the Upstate Pride. She has guided the squad to a 2-2 mark.
