8/30/2018 3:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Syracuse women's basketball will welcome Maryland Eastern Shore to the Carrier Dome for the second-consecutive year on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. 'Cuse holds a 5-0 record in the all-time series against the Hawks and is 4-0 in games played against UMES in the Carrier Dome.
Â
Maryland Eastern Shore posted an 11-19 record overall and went 7-9 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference last year. The Hawks enter the 2018-19 season in search of their first winning season in 10 years.
Â
With eight juniors and seniors on the roster, fourteenth-year head coach Fred Batchelor will look to his upperclassmen to lead the Hawks. Ciani Byrom returns for her senior year after leading UMES in points (11.1), field goal percentage (.300) and free throw percentage (.710) as a junior.
Â
Maryland Eastern Shore also returns second-leading scorer Bairesha Gill-Miles (10.2 ppg) who paced the Hawks in rebounds per game with 7.6 per game and 306 total points last year.
Â
'Cuse made its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017-18 and returns all five starters from its 22-9 squad that finished 10-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Syracuse Head Coach Quentin Hillsman signed a contract extension in the offseason and added a top-10 recruiting class to accent an already impressive returning lineup.
Â
The Orange begin their 2018-19 campaign against North Dakota on Nov. 6 at the Carrier Dome before they head to Eugene, Oregon, to face the Ducks on Nov. 10 in the first road game of the season.
