Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse welcomes Niagara to the Carrier Dome on Monday, Dec. 17, for the annual Women's Basketball School Day at 11 a.m. Attendance is free to students from second to eighth grade. Last year, 5,144 young fans packed into the Carrier Dome to watch the Orange defeat Hartford, 75-63, on Nov. 11, 2017. School Day in the Carrier Dome has become a premiere event in the Central New York community.
Syracuse and Niagara meet for the 15th time in program history on Dec. 17. The Orange hold a 10-4 record against the Purple Eagles and are 4-0 under head coach Quentin Hillsman. 'Cuse is 7-1 in home games against NU and has won the last four meetings. Last time they met, Syracuse defeated Niagara 109-60 on Dec. 10, 2016, when the Orange set a Carrier Dome record for field goals made in a game (44).
'Cuse finished 22-9 last season and reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth-consecutive year and seventh time under Hillsman. The Orange return all five starts from a year ago and add a top-10 incoming class with McDonald's All-American Emily Engstler and international standouts Kadiatou Sissoko (France) and Veronika Vorackova (Czech Republic), whom played for their native U20 National Teams this summer.
Niagara posted a 13-18 record and went 9-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). NU returns Jai Moore and Maggie McIntyre but loses leading scorer Victoria Rampado (20.5 points per game) and Kaylee Stroemple (11.2 ppg) from a season ago. Moore started in 20 games last year and was third in scoring for the Purple Eagles with 10.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
The Orange begin their 2018-19 campaign against North Dakota on Nov. 6 at the Carrier Dome before they head to Eugene, Oregon, to face the Ducks on Nov. 10 in the first road game of the season.
School Day registration is now open.
2018-19 Women's Basketball season tickets are on sale now. Secure your seats online or by phone (888-DOME-TIX).
